Subject: my questions

My questions are basically concerning about the different education
systems between China and US.

I see a lot of good ideas in your teaching draft. That's what we here
are trying to promote as well, the so called "ability education". But
the problem here is that, although many plans which focus in the
students' interests have been approved, practically high school students
still have to concentrate on the Entrance Exams of universities and
colleges. The competition of entering a good university is extremely
high. So they won't have more energy to do something they like.

My question:
Do American high school students feel tough competition when they apply
for a good university? Is it easy for an average-ability student to get
into a good university?

Besides, are there any distinct difference between the top universities
graduates and the average universities graduates, when they apply for
jobs?

Thank you.

The unit plan you saw was a part of a teacher training program through
Intel that I did in 2001. It is based on an education initiative called
"project-based learning" (I have attached a slide show about it)

Regarding competition for college entrance... Our district is very
competitive, however, I would say for U.S. colleges at large it is not
very difficult to get in a good school. (EX: 900 SAT / 21 ACT)

This is the best resource I know of to learn about college entrance
expectations etc...

The College Board is a not-for-profit membership association whose
mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity.
Founded in 1900, the association is composed of more than 4,500 schools,
colleges, universities, and other educational organizations. Each year,
the College Board serves over three million students and their parents,
23,000 high schools, and 3,500 colleges through major programs and
services in college admissions, guidance, assessment, financial aid,
enrollment, and teaching and learning. Among its best-known programs are
the SAT(r), the PSAT/NMSQT(r), and the Advanced Placement Program(r)
(AP(r)). The College Board is committed to the principles of excellence
and equity, and that commitment is embodied in all of its programs,
services, activities, and concerns.

hope this helps.

President Thieu says he'll quit if he doesn't get more than 50% of the
vote. In a democracy, that's not called quitting.
